The Special Education Paraprofessional holds primary responsibility for overseeing the implementation of effective, rigorous academic and behavior intervention systems with a small case load of students. This position aids and supports the classroom teacher in the areas of student supervision, implementing goals and objectives, and provides academic support to key students as assigned by the lead classroom teacher.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work alongside an experienced special educator to support a small case load of students, driving the academic achievement of students with moderate to severe need;
- Implement an effective, rigorous academic and behavior intervention system with a small case load of students;
- Provide consistent and high academic and behavioral expectations;
- Support student mastery of state, city, and school academic and behavioral standards;
- Lead daily individual and small group tutoring sessions;
- Communicate effectively with students, families and colleagues
- Supporting and assisting the classroom teacher in implementing the goals and objectives of the assigned classroom/students
- Working closely with the classroom teacher and school administrative team
- Making sure the school policies and procedures are properly and consistently implemented and maintained
- May perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education:
Graduation from high school or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). One of these additional credentials is highly preferred: 60 credit hours of college coursework, an Associate’s degree, a passing score on the ParaPro assessment, or WorkKeys certificate.
