Education Team Leader 25/26


The Education Team Leader is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs for students with special needs. They serve as key liaisons between parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure appropriate educational services and support for students with disabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. IEP/504 Development and Facilitation:

  • Lead the IEP/504 team in developing and reviewing Individualized Education Programs (IEP/504s) for students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with IEP/504 team members to gather and review assessment data, identify student strengths and needs, and establish measurable goals and objectives.

2. Documentation and Compliance:

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all IEP/504 process aspects, including meeting minutes, assessment reports, progress monitoring data, and communication with parents and stakeholders.
  • Maintain compliance with special education laws, section 504 law: regulations, district policies, and timelines for initial evaluations, annual reviews, and triennial reevaluations.

3. Parent and Community Engagement:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for parents of students with disabilities, providing information, support, and guidance throughout the IEP/504 process.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents, promoting collaboration and shared decision-making in developing and implementing their child’s IEP/504.
  • Collaborate with community agencies, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to access resources and support services for students with disabilities and their families.

4. Professional Development and Training:

  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for school staff on topics related to special education law, best practices in IEP/504 development, and strategies for supporting students with disabilities in the general education classroom.
  • Stay informed about current research, trends, and innovations in special education, and share relevant information with colleagues to enhance the quality of student services.

5. Student Progress Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Collaborate with teachers and related service providers to monitor student progress toward IEP/504 goals and objectives, adjusting services and supports as needed.
  • Regular progress reviews and annual IEP/504 meetings should be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the student’s program and make recommendations for modifications or revisions as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).  MA or CT State certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Several years of experience working in special education, including experience with developing and implementing IEP/504s.

  • Knowledge of special education laws, section 504 regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders to achieve common goals.
  • Commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and access for students with disabilities.
