Defensive Coordinator, HS Football


Springfield International Charter School is seeking a passionate and experienced Varsity Defensive Coordinator to lead the defensive unit of our high school football program. This individual will be responsible for developing a competitive and disciplined defense, mentoring student-athletes, and contributing to the overall success and culture of the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Head Coach to design and implement weekly defensive game plans and practice plans.
  • Teach defensive schemes, techniques, and fundamentals appropriate for high school athletes.
  • Break down game film using Hudl and prepare scouting reports on opponents.
  • Make in-game defensive adjustments and play calls.
  • Mentor and develop position coaches on the defensive staff.
  • Build strong relationships with student-athletes and promote academic accountability, sportsmanship, and character development.
  • Attend all practices, team meetings, film sessions, and games (including offseason workouts and camps when possible).
  • Ensure player safety and enforce all team, school, and MIAA rules.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Prior high school or college coaching experience required (defensive experience strongly preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of defensive schemes (4-2-5, 3-4, 4-3, etc.) and flexibility to tailor to personnel.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must pass all background checks and meet MIAA coaching requirements.

Preferred:

  • College playing or coaching experience.
  • Experience with HUDL and digital scouting tools.
  • Ability to coach an offensive and defensive position group
