Behavior & Learning Support Paraprofessional


Salary is dependent upon education level and prior paraprofessional experience. Range: 21.26 to 26.87/hour

The Behavior & Learning Support Paraprofessional provides individualized support to a student with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), fostering academic engagement, social-emotional growth, and behavioral success. This role involves working closely with educators, specialists, and families to implement strategies that promote the student’s learning, independence, and well-being in an inclusive environment.

  • Provide direct, individualized support to a student with ASD, ensuring their participation and success in the classroom.
  • Implement behavior intervention strategies and reinforcement techniques based on the student’s individualized education plan (IEP) and behavior support plan (BSP).
  • Assist with academic tasks, adapting materials and instructions as needed under the guidance of the instructional team.
  • Support the development of social and communication skills, facilitating peer interactions and modeling appropriate behaviors.
  • Monitor and collect data on student progress, behaviors, and interventions to inform instructional and behavioral decisions.
  • Utilize de-escalation strategies and proactive behavior management techniques to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and special education staff to ensure consistency in instructional and behavioral support.
  • Promote the student’s independence by gradually fading support when appropriate and in collaboration with the team.
  • Assist with sensory regulation and self-regulation strategies as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all interactions and documentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma required; associate’s degree or relevant coursework in education, psychology, or special education preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with students with autism and/or behavioral challenges preferred.
  • Understanding of positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles, or related strategies.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations.
  • Willingness to receive ongoing professional development and follow team guidance.
